This saw mortgagees paying:

  • only 5% off their principal loan in the first 5 years
  • 18% in the following 12 years
  • Only after 17 years did your principal and interest balance at 50%.

After deregulation new banks entered the market and financial products grew from 20 to 450. Alternatives to the P&I home loan sprang up over night with the choice bewildering to most property purchasers.
